Nickel Plate Arts Online Exhibit

John Dierdorf is the definition of modern impressionism.  His abstract impressionist methods emerged as his preferred style and definition of work with the use of loose, spontaneous brushstrokes to capture the essence of a subject. Dierdorf says, “Spending time in the garden or taking in the scenic landscape from the back porch provides inspiration for new works as my painting style continues to evolve.”

His preferred medium is boldly colored acrylics. When possible, he enjoys blending subtle tones to create an interesting expression that includes architectural elements, trees, and flowers. Dierdorf draws inspiration from several painters including Robert Indiana, Monet, Miro, Kandinsky, and Pollock.

His passions for architecture indeed stem from his architecture studies at Ball State University. There he learned not only how to create buildings, functional interiors, and exterior spaces between and around buildings but also how to be a curious observer of his surroundings and how light and shadow impart character. Those lessons all provided a great foundation for his current painting projects, not just his architecture career!

John Dierdorf will be showcasing his work for April and May 2020, currently available for purchase online and no-contact pickup to maximize social distancing during this quarantine period at https://squareup.com/store/nickel-plate-arts/ . Email kwitsken@nickelplatearts.org with questions.

Meyer Najem Contemporary Art Gallery "Two Architects/Two Artists"

Nickel Plate Arts partner Meyer-Najem has transformed the second story of their beautiful new Fishers building into a bright, modern, open space, perfect for featuring the contemporary works of our local artists. With a passion for supporting the local arts community, Meyer-Najem will host art exhibits viewable to the public from 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. For the months of January – March 2019, Nickel Plate Arts is excited to bring a two-person show to the Meyer-Najem art space. Craig Mullins and John Dierdorf were friends for many years as well as partners in their architecture firm, Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf. While Craig is now a retired principal and John a current principal over the firm, both have embarked on creative paths that give them even more shared experiences. “Two Architects/Two Artists” will feature works from both artists, each with their own unique painting style. In addition to a special reception on Friday, January 18th from 6-8pm, arts patrons are invited to view this collection of works during Meyer-Najem’s normal business hours, Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm.
